Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that some staff at Chelsea are convinced they need to make one signing in January in order to push for Champions League qualification.
He claimed on his Substack that of they get even a chance at signing Victor Osimhen in January, they will jump at it.
A lot of criticism has fallen at the door of Nicolas Jackson this season so far, with him for the majority of time not stepping up to the level required in front of goal.
However, he has started to do his best to turn things around.
He recently found a hat-trick against Tottenham, as the Blues picked up a big win away from home.
Despite his impressive performance, there is no doubt a gap between him and Osimhen when it comes to being in front of goal.
Chelsea on Osimhen
Phillips has now claimed that if a chance comes up in January, they will push hard to bring in the Napoli man, expected to be worth around £150m.
He said: “If Chelsea believe they have a chance of signing Osimhen in January, they will absolutely go all out. And again, if they think they have a chance of signing him in the summer, they will go all out.
“But here is where the issue is. Because Chelsea ideally want a new striker in January and some at the club feel they need one to come in this winter if they really want to push on for a Champions League spot. But as of now, Napoli have made it clear that they will not entertain offers for Osimhen in January.”
With the relationship between the striker and the club at an all-time low, it does feel as if the opportunity could come up to bring him in sooner than many thought.
