Al-Nassr showcased their supremacy against Al-Wehda at Mecca’s King Abdul Aziz Stadium on November 11, clinching a decisive 3-1 win, Newspremises reports.
Alex Telles, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Abdulelah Al Amri contributed to the Knights of Najd’s remarkable away success in the Saudi Pro League.
Under the guidance of manager Luis Castro, Al-Nassr, fueled by their disappointment in the previous season’s Saudi King’s Cup semifinal against the same rival, displayed a determined vengeance from the start.
The breakthrough occurred swiftly in the 11th minute when former Manchester United left-back Alex Telles astonished everyone with a stunning free-kick, marking his debut goal in the Saudi League.
This ignited the visitors, with Ronaldo testing Al Wehda’s goalkeeper Munir with a powerful free-kick after the half-hour mark.
Unfazed, Al-Nassr secured their second goal through an unexpected source, as Saudi defender Al Amri found the net with a forceful header orchestrated by Marcelo Brozovic in the 39th minute.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the leading goal scorer in the Saudi top flight, added another goal, capitalizing on a defensive error by Al Wehda, just five minutes into the second half.
Despite a VAR review cutting short Anderson Talisca’s goal celebration in the 62nd minute, the Brazilian attacker’s contribution didn’t alter the outcome.
Veteran midfielder Anselmo scored in the dying moments for Al Wehda, but it proved inconsequential as the Arab Cup champions held firm for a 3-1 triumph.
This victory solidifies the Knights of Najd’s position, remaining four points behind league leaders Al-Hilal as they enter the final international break of the calendar year.
