Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s blossoming relationship has been regular headline fodder since they went public with their romance. But according to a new fan theory, the power couple might have started dating much earlier than Swifties publicly knew.
On July 8, Kelce attended Swift’s Eras Tour concert at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. He attempted to give Swift a friendship bracelet his number but was unsuccessful—a story he shared on his New Heights podcast.
Fast-forward to Sept. 24, and Swift accepted Kelce’s invitation to attend a Kansas City Chiefs game. There, she was photographed cheering on her NFL beau from a private suite, attending more games in the following weeks and gradually packing on the PDA.
A new Swifite theory, however, suggests Swift and Kelce’s relationship actually began much earlier—and that Swift’s short-lived fling with The 1975 frontman Matty Healy was a decoy hiding what was really going on.
“There’s a lot of chatter, all right, right now around how long Taylor and Travis have actually been together. I think they’ve been together much longer than we all know,” TikTok user @average_iowa_mom explained in a Nov. 17 video. “I just don’t think that she would do that to anybody. ‘Yeah, we’ve been dating for, you know, a couple months. Like, I’m just going to come to your football game and put all this media attention on you and your whole family.’ I think she knows better.”
According to @average_iowa_mom, Swift and Kelce started dating long before he attended her July 8 concert—and the soft launch for their relationship was Kelce’s friendship bracelet story.
At the same time, @average_iowa_mom also noticed that Kelce’s Twitter activity slowed down in May before abruptly stopping for a month from June 29 to July 29.
“I think May is when things started to ‘be things’ between them,” she said. “So here’s the other thing: May is also when Matty Healy came into the picture. I’ve seen theories that he was a decoy.”
That’s when @average_iowa_mom pulls the whole theory together, suggesting Swift truly may be a mastermind.
“May was when Travis kind of slowed down on tweeting, stopped putting out his own content. Matty distracts the rest of us, May and June,” she recapped. “July, they super soft launch it. And then we all know what happens next.”
TikTok users seemed to agree with @average_iowa_mom’s theory in the comments.
One person wrote, “hearing trav’s mom say, ‘it’s fun seeing them tell their story the way they want it told’ told me all I needed to know 😂.”
Another TikTok user commented, “When I found out one of her back up dancers is related to a player on the Chiefs…it clicked.”
Meanwhile, someone else pointed out, “July 29th was the first hint wearing the chiefs shirt under her jacket before the show.”
