Korean music awards Melon Music Awards (MMA) 2023 has announced the official nominations. It was not unexpected that Jungkook (BTS), NewJeans, IVE, Seventeen… dominated most of the categories.
On November 17, the first round of voting for the Top 10 artists (Bonsang) of the Melon Music Awards of Korea’s largest digital music platform Melon ended, and the winners were: aespa, BTS, (G)I-DLE, IVE, Jungkook, LE SSERAFIM, Lim Young Woong, NCT Dream, NewJeans, Seventeen.
From November 18, the nomination list for Daesang (Grand Prize) and other categories will be officially announced and the voting portal will be open until December 1.
Artists on the MMA 2023 nomination list must have music products released from November 4, 2022 to November 1, 2023.
“Millions Top 10” is a new category for Melon this year, awarded to 10 albums that surpass 1 million streams on Melon within the first 24 hours of release, based on 80% of downloads, streams on Melon and 20% based on audience votes.
Melon also opened voting for several additional awards, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year. Most of these awards will determine the winner based on 60 percent of downloads and streams on Melon, 20 percent of judges’ scores, and 20 percent of audience votes.
The “Excellent Music Style” category is determined based on 20% of downloads and streams on Melon, 60% of judges’ evaluation, 20% of votes. Most Popular Star Award of KakaoBank is decided by 20% of the judges’ evaluation and 80% of the audience’s votes.
Other awards such as Record of the Year (Daesang) and Music Video of the Year do not have a list of nominees, because these awards are completely chosen by the judges.
The 2023 Melon Music Awards ceremony took place on December 2 at the INSPIRE arena in Seoul, South Korea. This year’s lineup of performing artists includes aespa, IVE, NewJeans, NCT Dream, StayC, ZeroBaseOne, RIIZE, BoyNextDoor, Kiss Of Life.
