Aaron Rodgers hoping to give Jets fans an early Christmas present

The New York Jets may receive an unexpected gift this Christmas if they can stay in the AFC playoff race for a few more weeks. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has expressed his desire to return to the Jets lineup in time for their Christmas Eve game against the Washington Commanders, according to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports. However, there is no guarantee that Rodgers will be cleared to practice before then.

Before the start of Week 11 games, news broke that Rodgers aimed to return to practice by December 2nd, which aligns with the 21-day practice window after being on injured reserve and coincides with the Jets’ Week 16 game. While discussions about Rodgers making a potential comeback in 2023 have been ongoing, the speculation gained momentum after a report by Jay Glazer of Fox Sports. Glazer revealed that Rodgers had sent the Jets a video showcasing his progress in rehab, which reportedly impressed the team.

According to Glazer, Rodgers is telling the Jets that he would like to begin practicing as early as December 2nd. If the Jets remain in playoff contention, Rodgers intends to try and play sometime in mid-December. It may seem unlikely for Rodgers to return just 16 weeks after suffering an Achilles injury in the first game of the season. However, Rodgers stated on the “Pat McAfee Show” that while there is no set timetable for his return this year, he hasn’t closed the door on the possibility.

Rodgers acknowledged that the situation could change based on how well he progresses in the upcoming weeks. If he has a successful week of recovery, it could potentially accelerate his return. However, if the team is not in playoff contention within the next few weeks, the plans may take a different direction. Nevertheless, Rodgers remains optimistic about the Jets’ chances and his own comeback.
