Secret Invasion’s Emilia Clarke claims that Marvel is the best franchise she has been a part of, which is a big thing, given her past works.
Emilia Clarke, who recently joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Disney+’s Secret Invasion, says that Marvel is the best franchise she has ever been in. Clarke plays a key role in Secret Invasion, one of Marvel’s most ambitious series yet, as the show plays with Nick Fury unraveling a conspiracy where the shape-shifting Skrulls — of which Clarke’s G’iah is a part — are attempting to dominate Earth. While promoting her new series, Clarke made strong comments about Marvel.Speaking with Yahoo Entertainment‘s Kevin Polowy, Clarke surprisingly revealed that Marvel is the best franchise she has ever been a part of.
That is a bold statement coming from Clarke, as she has appeared in three other major franchises — Game of Thrones, Star Wars, and Terminator — over the years. Asked about what was unique of working at Marvel when comparing to her work on other popular franchises, Clarke simply responded that “It’s just the best one!” She also went on to praise Secret Invasion‘s star-studded cast, saying, “having this cast is just completely mind-blowing.” Check out the full exchange below:
Polowy: You’ve done GoT of course, you’ve entered the Star Wars universe, Terminator. What was uniquely different about working in the Marvel world?Clarke: Oh my god, it’s just … It’s just the best one! Do you know what I mean?Polowy: It’s the best of all those things?Ben Mendelsohn: There’s not a lot of drama.Clarke: Well, that’s it. It’s such a pedigree in its own right, it lives in its own level that is separate from everything else. It isn’t just a superhero franchise, it’s Marvel, like it’s totally different. There’s an ease and calm that I think comes with them being the best and maybe understanding that they’re the best, and having all the stuff. And then having this cast is just completely mind-blowing.
Why Emilia Clarke Likes Working In The MCU So Much
Clarke is best known for her scene-stealing role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, but it appears that her limited time in the MCU with Secret Invasion‘s intriguing story has already managed to change her preferences. As Ben Mendelsohn — who plays Talos, the father to Clarke’s G’iah in Secret Invasion — says during the interview, “There’s not a lot of drama” at Marvel compared to other franchises.
That aspect is extremely important to the fact that Clarke believes Marvel is the best franchise she has ever been in, as her work on three other popular franchises was met with varying degrees of controversies. Clarke’s role in Game of Thrones was one of the show’s best aspects, with the series in itself being widely regarded as one of the best to have ever existed. However, Game of Thrones‘ final two seasons were extremely divisive, as was Daenerys Targaryen’s arc during the show’s final season, which burned a lot of the fans’ goodwill, tarnishing the series’ legacy.
Along that same note, her work on Star Wars and Terminator came in films that received a lot of backlash. Solo was heavily criticized for focusing on a young Han Solo and recasting Harrison Ford, also suffering from behind-the-scenes issues like losing its original directors and more. Terminator Genisys was viewed by many as unnecessary, with the more recent films in the franchise all being poorly received by critics and fans. Based on that, it is easy to see why Clarke is so fond of her time at Marvel, working with a star-studded cast on Secret Invasion for the most successful movie franchise of all time.
