The Early Years

Before she became a famous actress, Anne Hathaway performed in plays at her high school and local theaters in New Jersey. She even sang at Carnegie Hall for her high school chorus.

‘Get Real’ – Meghan Green

After leaving college to pursue her acting career, Hathaway’s onscreen debut was the 1999 Fox dramedy Get Real where she played Meghan Green.

In 2001, Hathaway landed the role that would help define her career. She starred alongside Julie Andrews as an American teenager who was the heir to the throne in Genovia. Andrews told Vanity Fair in 2022 that Hathaway’s talent was clear “from the first day of shooting” and they have remained “great friends” since the movie premiered.

Hathaway made her NYC stage debut after “The Princess Diaries” when she was cast in a concert for the classic musical “Carnival!” at City Center Encores.
