Manchester United wonder kid Alejandro Garnacho has claims that Lionel Messi unfollowed him on social media after he declared Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest of all time.
This revelation comes from Rio Ferdinand, who shared insights from a private conversation with the Argentine following Garnacho’s remarkable goal for Manchester United.
The footballing world was stunned by Garnacho’s extraordinary overhead kick against Everton on Sunday.
Many pundits have already dismissed the Premier League’s Goal of the Season award, with some going as far as to suggest that the stunning strike stands as the best in the competition’s storied history.
The goal had an immediate and profound impact on Goodison Park, rendering it silent just three minutes into what was anticipated to be a fervent atmosphere on Merseyside, per Diario AS.
Despite the global acclaim showered upon the goal, it fell short of regaining a follow from compatriot Messi for Garnacho.
Interestingly, Garnacho had previously posted an Instagram picture in April 2022, a few months before Argentina’s World Cup heroics, where he hailed Ronaldo, then his cub teammate, as the best to ever grace the sport.
Ferdinand contends that this particular post might have been the reason why Messi decided to express his displeasure and hit the unfollow button.
“You know what I like about him?” he told his Vibe with Five podcast via Mancester Evening News. “He doesn’t give a [explicit]. Garnacho told me Messi unfollowed him just because he makes no secret of preferring Ronaldo. He comes out, doesn’t care, ‘I’m a Ronaldo man’. Who’s the GOAT? Ronaldo. (Even) when he’s in the Argentina squad.”
