Travis Kelce‘s ex-girlfriend Kayla Nicole shared a video touching on ‘backlash and embarrassment’ – without naming him or his new love interest Taylor Swift – amid his new romance with the singer.
The 31-year-old influencer shared her open letter on her Instagram page Monday in the form of a video – directing her words to ‘black women specifically.’
Kayla, who dated Travis on and off for five years from 2017 until they called it quits for good in 2022.
‘Kayla here, It’s always been really important to me to use my platform not to create division but to elevate and unite women – black women specifically. So I prepared a letter and would like to share it with you today,’ she opened her video with.
‘My truth, trauma and vulnerability is a relatable part of the human experience. I know I’m not alone,’ she said, adding that ‘you hope the ones closest will protect you. But you will quickly find out that people don’t protect what they don’t value,’ Kayla said.
She spoke about not clapping back to critics, which stoops to the same level as them: ‘Silence the voices within that want to give in to this demoralizing and antiquated narrative.’
The host’s comments comes weeks after Travis, 34, and Taylor, 33, went public with their romance during his September 24th football game.
‘Dear black girl, they may call you a traitor for falling in love. You hope the ones closest will protect you. But you will quickly find out that people don’t protect what they don’t value,’ Kayla said.
‘They’ll say you’re too much. Too provocative. Too boisterous. Too outspoken. And in the same breath that you’re not enough. Not successful enough. not wholesome enough. Maybe not even intelligent enough. They’ll say you deserve the backlash and embarrassment. Because of your blackness, you should have known better.
‘They’ll even try to tie your value to your net worth, but black girl please remember your value lies elsewhere. Your value is deep within your heart. The way you love, the way you give.
‘Your value is in your resilience. Your willingness to forgive. The way you protect what means most to you even if it hurts you along the way. And the way you stand up for what means most to you. Even though they might not do the same. But black girl, respectfully let me stop you there, you don’t have to participate in this tumultuous and often, one sided journey.
‘Preserve your heart. Even when they try to quantify your character and test your boundaries, you do not have to engage. You do not have to respond because there is power in your silence and you can use that same power to silence the noise. And the self-doubt. Silence the voices within that want to give in to this demoralizing and antiquated narrative.’
‘Tap into that power. Because, I know girl the rage of the world is loud. But black girl, your God is louder. And your tribe is stronger. Your blood runs deeper and its filled with strength and when you finally find your strength to speak your truth. It is your voice that will help heal because black girl let me tell you, you’re not in this alone. And even though sometimes I too ask, why me?
‘I’m reminded that this isn’t just about me. This isn’t just my story. A singular experience. My truth, trauma and vulnerability is a relatable part of the human experience. I know I’m not alone. And I want to make sure you know you’re not either. On days where I feel most inadequate, I have to remind myself that I am, have been and will always be more than enough.
‘Look, we love, we hurt, we heal but always remember that your story is yours to tell. And you never know whose life it may touch. Because there is so much power in community and connection so dear black girl, when the world gets dark and times get hard and when you feel like your back is against the wall and your hands are tied like nobody knows, understands or knows what it takes to be you. Remember that you are a part of something way bigger.
Concluding: ‘This is only a small chapter in your story. And if you need help, there are resources like therapy, prayer and community to help you make it through. But most importantly, I want you to remember that you are loved, you are valued. You’re allowed to take up space. You deserve protection. And your feelings, they matter too. Solely because you’re a black girl. Sincerely, a black girl.’
Kayla’s open letter comes just days after she unfollowed Brittany Mahomes, who is the wife of Travis’ Chiefs teammate Patrick Mahomes.
She also unfollowed Patrick and his brother Jackson Mahomes.
All three however still follow her.
Kayla and Travis were part of Brittany and Patrick’s wedding party.
Her unfollowing comes after Brittany was spotted hanging out with Travis’ new love interest Taylor Swift.
She joined Taylor on October 1st in a suite at the Chiefs game at the New York Jets, sitting alongside the popstar, as well as Blake Lively, Sophie Turner, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and more.
Brittany even attended a girls night with Taylor, Blake, Sophie and several other gal pals the night before at Emilio’s Ballato.
Brittany also attended the after game private bash on September 24 – the night Taylor and Travis went public with their relationship.
Travis, who was raised in Ohio, and Taylor rumored romance was confirmed on Sunday, September 24 – after she attended his game.
It’s not clear exactly when the two began seeing each other in person, but Travis had revealed on his New Heights podcast in July that he had hoped to introduce himself to Taylor when he attended one of her Eras Tour stops.
‘I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings, so I was a little butt-hurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her,’ he said.
Taylor amped up the budding courtship at Sunday’s game when she arrived alone — aside from her usual bodyguards — to cheer on Travis from a box.
However, the sources explained to the outlet that the Lavender Haze singer’s earlier meetings with the NFL star were in a ‘very private setting’ so as to not attract attention.
It appears that she’s moving toward a more open relationship with Travis now, though the sources also stressed that the two are not ‘officially’ dating, even though things are clearly heating up between them.
Another sign that Taylor the Kansas City Chiefs star are growing closer was that she met his parents at the Sunday, September 24 game.
The multi-Grammy award winning artist sat next to Travis’ mom Donna Kelce inside a luxury suite at Arrowhead Stadium; his dad Ed was also in attendance.
Donna and Taylor laughed and chatted during the game, cheering on Travis when he scored a touchdown.
Meeting parents for the first time is often stressful, but the sources shared that the first meeting went ‘very well,’ and Taylor seems to have particularly won over Donna, who called her a ‘lovely person.’
Although she has now met Travis’ parents, Taylor has yet to meet his brother Jason Kelce, who plays for the Philadelphia Eagles and co-hosts the New Heights podcast with his sibling.
Although Taylor – who stands five-feet-11 inches – and Travis, who is six-foot-five-inches, appeared to keep the PDA to a minimum while heading to the Prime Social Rooftop in Kansas City after the game on Sunday, eyewitnesses spotted them holding hands once they were inside the restaurant.
They arrived to the restaurant via his vintage convertible, as she sat in his passenger seat.
The PDA escalated when Taylor sat on the football players lap at one point, according to TMZ, who have pictures from the private bash.
She had her arm wrapped around his head intimately, as she sat on his lap.
The dinner was only somewhat private, as Travis’ family, including his mother Donna, also showed up, and some of his teammates dropped by as well.
An eyewitness previously told Entertainment Tonight that it was Travis who had bought out the restaurant for the afterparty.
‘Taylor arrived, wearing a denim dress, and was seen snacking, having some cocktails and dancing alongside Travis,’ they said.
Another diner told ET that restaurant staff told them there would be a ‘hard close’ at 8 p.m., and the wait staff handed out to-go boxes ahead of the deadline while letting them know that they would need to leave the premises before that time.
Taylor attended the following week’s game – on October 1; the Chiefs played at the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
She was joined by Blake, Sophie, Ryan, Hugh, and Brittany – along with more friends from her celebrity squad.
Taylor did not attend their road game against the Minnesota Vikings, which they won 27-20.
