‘Oh my god, I’m freaking out!’ Star struck Anne Hathaway loses her cool as Mariah Carey shows up to premiere for new movie The Intern
She’s one of the stars of the film, and as she walked the red carpet the premiere of The Intern on Tuesday, it was clearly her big night.
But Anne Hathaway couldn’t help but be utterly star struck at one of the celebrity guests on the night: Mariah Carey.
The 31-year-old Oscar-winning actress was interviewed at the event, held at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York, gushing over the superstar singer’s presence and also revealing herself to be too shy to go up and talk to her.
‘Oh my god!’ Anne Hathaway couldn’t hold her nerve as she realised Mariah Carey was at the premiere for The Intern in New York on Tuesday evening
Speaking to Associated Press, she said: ‘She’s at my f***ing premiere. Well, I mean it’s Bob’s (Robert De Niro) movie premiere more than mine… Oh my god!’
When asked by the interviewer if she would go up to her, she cried: ‘No! I’m freaking out, like she’s two arm-lengths away right now.’
‘She was getting her hair brushed before she stepped out on the red carpet; it was amazing,’ the off-camera reporter added.
Anne gushed: ‘Of course she was, it’s just the best glamorous ever.
Big star! Mariah, 45, put in a gorgeous showing in a crimson dress at the red carpet event
‘She’s two arm-lengths away right now!’ Anne, 31, may be an Oscar-winning star, but she showed how star struck she was as she worked out how close she was to the Hero hitmaker
‘That’s not even a sentence – ‘it’s just the best glamorous ever’. There’s no grammar there. I went to college… I didn’t graduate!’ she added, joking about her lack of a good way to verbalise her emotions.
She seemed rather overwhelmed as she was near to the Hero hitmaker, glancing in her direction repeatedly, her eyes widening.
Mariah, 45, had rocked up at the event in the Big Apple in a skintight crimson dress to join the stars of the new comedy film, which stars Anne alongside Robert De Niro and Rene Russo.
She’s in sight: Anne also admitted she was too shy to go up to Mariah on the red carpet
Unable to verbalise her feelings: The Les Miserables star also failed to properly form a cohesive sentence, saying of Mariah’s entrance – ‘It’s just the best glamorous ever’
And it had been a big moment for her, as it was the first time she had made a public appearance with her new boyfriend, Australian billionaire James Packer.
The couple, who spent much of this summer holidaying together through Europe, looked loved-up on the red carpet, and completely comfortable for their first official showbiz outing.
Anne herself looked incredible on the evening, putting in a fashion-forward display for her turn at the premiere.
Glamorous: Anne had put in a fashion-forward display in a unique asymmetric dress covered with glitzy embellishments and a feathered hemline
First appearance: Mariah made headlines on Tuesday as she rocked up to the premiere with boyfriend James Packer, their first official outing together
Her unique dress, designed by her personal stylist Penny Lovell, was a single-sleeved number in black, with an asymmetric glittery skirt complete with a feathered hemline.
Matching the ravishingly lopsided look, Anne wore her dark brunette locks in a one-sided style, her hair loose in curls over her right shoulder.
Also in attendance, of course, was the leading man of the film, De Niro, who went for a far more casual look on the red carpet.
‘He’s such a legend! He’s Bob De Niro!’ Anne told TODAY Online Monday of the 72-year-old acting icon, revealing herself once again to be star struck in the face of iconic talent.
He’s the boss: Anne was also chuffed to have attended alongside her co-star and the movie’s leading man, Robert De Niro
‘You’d expect that to factor into his consciousness in some level. But it just doesn’t. He’s just humble and kind and generous. And that’s because of the person he is. And it’s a really attractive thing if somebody doesn’t wear that status. You know?’
In Nancy Meyers’ The Intern, the Interstellar star plays Jules Ostin, a fashion e-commerce company CEO, who bonds with her 70-year-old intern Ben Whittaker (De Niro).
The Warner Bros. comedy – also featuring Snoop Dogg and Mary Kay Place – hits US cinemas on September 25 and UK theaters on October 2.
‘I had a good time doing this movie. [Hathaway] is really terrific as a partner. No nonsense. Very respectful and a very hard worker,’ Robert added.
