Casting rumors for the DCU’s Wonder Woman have been sparked after an interesting social media post from DC Studios head James Gunn. Ahead of the announcement that none of the DCEU’s Justice League cast would return as their characters in October 2023, fan casts and rumors have been prevalent regarding the DCU. While David Corenswet will lead the DCU’s superteam beginning with Superman: Legacy in 2025, the actors joining him as the other iconic members of the Justice League are yet to be revealed.

That said, a post on James Gunn’s Instagram account celebrated Diana Prince/Wonder Woman on Wonder Woman Day with artwork of the character from comic book artist Dave Finch. While Gunn’s highlighting of Wonder Woman alone is enough to spark interest, a comment from actress Eiza González has only added fuel to the fire. González commented: “This image is the one” under Gunn’s post, sparking rumors that she may be vying for the role of Prince in Gunn’s fledgling DCU.

Why Eiza González Would Be A Good DCU Wonder Woman

These rumors raise the question of why Eiza González would be a good DCU Wonder Woman. Firstly, on a more simple note, González has a similar look to the majority of Wonder Woman art from DC Comics. While not of Greek descent like Diana Prince from the DC Universe, González’s somewhat darker skin, hair, and eyes match what is usually seen of Wonder Woman in most artwork. Aside from her physical appearance matching that of Diana Prince, González’s prior works prove she would be a good fit for the DCU’s Wonder Woman.

Baby Driver, in particular, is a good showcase of González’s range. In the film, González plays Monica ‘Darling’ Costello, a criminal who is in a relationship with Jason ‘Buddy’ van Horn. This allows González to be very charismatic throughout the film from her flirty nature with Buddy to her more friendly interactions with Baby. However, as the story progresses, Darling becomes more unhinged due to Baby’s meddling with their criminal activities, proving that she has the action star talent needed to be one of the DCU’s core trio in Wonder Woman.
