Red Sea Film Festival Unveils Surprising Friendship: Will Smith And Johnny Depp’s Embrace Steals the Show

Will Smith shared a friendly hug with fellow Hollywood star, Johnny Depp, as the pair attended the star-studded, Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air alum, 55 — who admitted he’s ‘made tons of mistakes’ following the infamous Oscars slap — uploaded an Instagram video on Saturday that had captured his embrace with Depp, 60.

The reel contained a montage of special moments from his time at the festival, and at one point, Smith could be seen crossing paths with the Edward Scissorhands actor.

The two held cheerful smiles before stepping forward to quickly share a warm hug at the screening for HWJN earlier this week on Thursday at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

Afterwards, Will and Johnny held a light-hearted conversation during the opening night of the film festival — which is slated to end on December 9.

The clip also showed the Men In Black star enjoying a game of golf and exploring Old Town Jeddah.

He also included a snippet of himself drinking ‘a lot’ of coffee and taking time to pause for selfies with thrilled fans while at the glitzy event.

In the caption of Smith’s recent post, he penned, ‘Wow! Thank You Red Sea Film Festival! You have created real Magic — An Oasis of art & creativity! What’s Next? I’m in.’

Social media users jumped to the comment section to share their excitement over seeing the two actors together.

One wrote, ‘Ooooh…Will Smith and Johnny Depp… I’d definitely watch a movie with both of them,’ followed by a heart-eyed emoji.

Another typed out, ‘Johnny Depp & Will Smith = EPIC,’ while one fan added, ‘Please do a movie with Johnny Depp.’

Their meeting comes after Depp’s trial with ex-wife Amber Heard last year in 2022 as well as Jada Pinkett Smith recently revealing that both she and Will have been living separately since 2016.

Johnny and Will celebrated the opening night of the Red Sea Film Festival by making an appearance at the screening of the fantasy epic, HWJN, which was directed by Yasir Al-Yasiri.

Afterwards, Will and Johnny held a short conversation as they caught up during the opening night of the film festival — which is slated to end on December 9

The premise follows, ‘An inquisitive Jinn finds himself falling for a human girl while unraveling the truth of his royal lineage,’ per IMDB, and is based on the novel written by Ibraheem Abbas.

Later on Friday, Johnny was seen gracing the red carpet once again to attend the screening of his period piece, Jeanne du Barry.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean star was dapper in a classic black suit which he paired with a white dress shirt that was partially unbuttoned towards the collar.

At the festival, the Oscar-nominated actor joined Maïwenn — who not only starred in the movie as King Louis XV’s mistress, but also wrote, produced and directed the project.

During a panel discussion at the screening, Depp — who portrayed King Louis XV — gushed about Maïwenn’s ability to step both behind and in front of the camera.

‘They’re such opposing things. It was great that Maïwenn had the ability to move herself from the dream that was on the monitor,’ he stated, per Deadline. ‘That’s a gift if you can step away from the actor, if you’re directing the thing.’

‘The actor in a weird way should almost do his best to clear his head of everything, so you’re not aware of what’s happening around you, you’re in the scene.’

‘But a director has to be aware of everything that’s going on, everything that’s happening,’ he continued.

Jeanne du Barry premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year in May, and notably received a seven-minute standing ovation.

Smith was also spotted on Saturday during a discussion at the In Conversation panel and opened up about ‘mistakes’ he has made, and also labeled ‘fame’ as a ‘unique monster.’

He took part in an on-stage conversation with Lebanese TV host Raya Abirached in front of a crowd of adoring fans.

The actor seemed to be at ease talking about his ‘many adversities’ over the past couple years and how he’s tried to learn from his mistakes to move forward.

‘I have made tons of mistakes,’ Smith admitted to the lively crowd at the film festival. ‘We love your mistakes,’ a woman yelled out in response.

He appeared to be alluding to his infamous Oscars slap of host Chris Rock during the 94th Academy Awards in 2022, and the public issues in his marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith, who revealed recently that they have been living apart since 2016.

The In Conversation session at the Vox Cinema complex at the city’s Red Sea Mall began with a highlight reel of his career, which drew plenty of applause and cheers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He went on to reveal that he has been able work through some of his issues with the help of famed musician and producer Quincy Jones, whom he called a trusted advisor and mentor.

‘Quincy has always made himself available,’ Smith said, before adding, ‘He wants me to win as a human. He is devoted to me as a human, not just as an artist.’

Will later reflected on his career in Hollywood and admitted, ‘Fame is a unique monster and I’ve had to be really careful,’ and also elaborated on some lessons he’s learned along the way.

The star also teased the sequel to his 2007 film, I Am Legend, during the panel. ‘I have a call with Michael B. Jordan tomorrow. I can’t tell you any more.’

Despite his character, Robert Neville, dying in the film – an alternate ending was included in the DVD that showed Neville alive.

‘So we are going with the mythology of the DVD version where my character lived,’ the Oscar winner revealed.
