Mary Queen of Scots is Josie Rourke’s debut at the helm of a major motion picture, but by no means is this the highly-touted British theater director’s first time in the chair.
Furthermore, she has experience with a female-driven historical war drama, as she worked on Donmar Warehouse’s version of George Bernard Shaw’s Saint Joan – about Joan of Arc.
The movie is based on John Guy’s biography My Heart Is My Own: The Life of Mary Queen of Scots, and adapted to the screen by Beau Willimon, creator of House of Cards.
The film is set to hit theaters December 7 in the U.S. and January 18, 2019 in the U.K.
